English language requirement

  • GCSE English Language grade C or Grade 4, or above

  • Country equivalencies for GCSE English Language grade C/4 as defined on the Qualification Database

For courses that have specific subject requirements at A-level:

All applicants for undergraduate courses must also meet a minimum standard in English and Mathematics.

English: Standard XII, English 70% (or 60% from West Bengal Exam Board).

  • Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Examination, 6.

Some courses may require higher grades in English and Mathematics and/or additional subjects, so please check the requirements provided on individual course pages.

Postgraduate

Holders of Bachelor's degrees, with high scores in appropriate subjects from a Central or State University will be considered for postgraduate Masters programmes. Holders of Masters degrees will be considered for MPhil/PhD study. For courses that require a 2.1, students would need to have achieved between 60%-75%. For courses that require a 2.2, students would need to have achieved between 55%-60%.

University-managed accommodation is the ideal place to make great new friends. Options to suit you choose from our range of self-catered student housing to suit all budgets. Arranged in Courts of Residence, they give you a living space to make your own. You will find them within easy reach of the International Study Centre, whether you get here on foot or by bus.

Great locations

Manor Park is a car-free student village in an area of wonderful natural beauty. Here you will find over 1,800 en-suite rooms, only a twenty minute walk from Stag Hill campus. Manor Park has a cafe and it is easy to get to the Olympic-standard facilities at Surrey Sports Park from here. Stag Hill campus is the main site, close to all the main campus amenities. Guildford town centre is a ten-minute walk away. Hazel Farm is only two miles from Stag Hill campus, and a little over three miles away from the International Study Centre. It is an ideal choice if you are looking for a more affordable option. A regular, free bus service takes you to and from campus.

What is included?

All rooms include a bed, desk and chair, reading lamp, bookshelf and clothing storage. Kitchens are supplied with a cooker, fridge and freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, iron and ironing board. You will also have broadband internet connection and personal belongings insurance. With easy access to these daily living amenities means you will find your room comfortable.

All Courts also provide a communal TV room (except Bellerby Court). Most apartments are mixed gender but single-sex apartments are available in most Courts. All communal areas and bedrooms are non-smoking. Bedding is not supplied. You can buy bedding packs from the University’s online shop. You will also need to supply your own cutlery, crockery and kitchenware. Please secure your accommodation before arriving in the UK to study. This will ensure that you have no difficulty confirming your course at immigration or police registration (if required).

  • Request accommodation when you apply for the International Study Centre.*

  • Confirm your place at the International Study Centre. Our accommodation team will then contact you with your University Student ID and an invitation to apply for accommodation online.

  • Apply for accommodation online. The University will then send you a room offer.

  • Accept the room offer by signing and returning the Occupancy Agreement to the University and making all due payments. Please read the University of Surrey’s terms & conditions and accommodation cancellation policy.



UG: All self-funding students will receive a scholarship of £2,000 a year. All outstanding international students (e.g. 1st class, A grade) will receive a scholarship of £4,000 per year.

PG: All self-funding international students will receive a scholarship of £2,000. All outstanding international students (e.g. 1st class honors degree holders) will be automatically considered for a scholarship of £4,000.
